Bankruptcy Basics

| Nov 11, 2014 | Bankruptcy Basics |

On November 17, 2014 our very own Bruce Levitt will be the moderator and a speaker at a seminar sponsored by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) called “Bankruptcy Basics 2014.” This program is designed for lawyers who do not handle bankruptcy cases, including those at large firms, government agencies or attorneys considering venturing into a new area of practice. The speakers will explain key provisions of the Bankruptcy Code, including a discussion of the differences between Chapter 7, 11 and 13 cases.

Some of the bankruptcy practice and procedure topics which will be discussed include:

· A general understanding of Chapter 7 and 13 cases

· A general understanding of a Chapter 11 case

· What is property of the bankruptcy estate

· How does the automatic stay work

· The creditor’s role in a bankruptcy

· How does one receive a discharge

· Post bankruptcy case issues

Mr. Levitt speaks often at ICLE seminars and recently spoken about reverse mortgages. In May, he spoke at the 16th Annual Hon. William H. Gindin Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference on the topics of Loan Modification, Reaffirmation and Chapter 20 bankruptcies.
