Can a bankruptcy stop a foreclosure?

A Chapter 7 bankruptcy can delay a foreclosure by putting in place an automatic stay which will temporarily stop the NJ foreclosure process. This can help you eliminate your other debts and provide you with more time to find a new place to live.

A Chapter 13 bankruptcy allows you to permanently save your home if you can begin making your mortgage payments and cure the payments that you missed over 3 to 5 years.  It can also give you the time to get a loan modification.
