Managing Your Stress Levels When Money is Tight

| Oct 5, 2017 | Bankruptcy Basics |

You can probably relate to the ups and downs of trying to get by financially today. Millions of others around the US are feeling the stress of balancing the household budget also, especially as the cost of living continues to rise while wage increases for many either are insufficient or are completely nonexistent. The way we feel when we have a positive grip on our finances can be hard to describe-but the reverse can often be defined as disturbing, anxiety-inducing, and downright nightmarish. Much of this stems from feeling helpless-and you very well may be somewhat helpless to pay numerous bills, especially if you have been hit hard by a medical issue, unemployment, divorce, overwhelming student loan debt and more.

The first goal is to begin working toward a realistic solution. If you are unable to pay your bills, speak with an experienced bankruptcy law firm like Levitt & Slafkes, P.C.. If you are eligible for Chapter 7, you may be able to receive a discharge and look forward to a fresh start within three to six months. If your income is too high you will need to file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy in a repayment plan that stretches out three to five years. While that may seem like a long time, you will have the immediate benefit of the automatic stay, which puts a halt to all collection activities-including any threat of foreclosure or repossession.

While choosing a positive new path to follow is important, there are numerous other ways to manage your stress, to include:

· Trying to set a more realistic budget

· Speaking with a counselor-and examining your relationships with money more closely

· Enjoying the support of family and friends

· Practicing yoga, meditation, or other relaxation forms of exercise

· Eating a healthy diet

· Cutting out any alcohol or drug use

While divesting yourself of financial troubles may not be immediately possible, that is the obvious path to relieving yourself of enormous stress. Settling your finances and taking measures along the way to deal with the stress is important for your future and your health.

We are here to help. Contact Levitt & Slafkes, P.C. today so one of our attorneys can evaluate your case and discuss the best options available to you. Call us at 973-323-2953, or contact us online to schedule a consultation at no cost.
