Levitt and Slafkes, P.C. is pleased to announce that Bruce H. Levitt has been certified as a civil case mediator in the State of New Jersey.  In order to become a mediator Mr. Levitt completed the Civil Mediation Training Course offered by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE).  He serves on the court-approved Bankruptcy Mediation Panel for the District of New Jersey.

In addition to mediating bankruptcy cases, Mr. Levitt also mediates commercial disputes.

Mr. Levitt is often asked what the difference is between mediation and arbitration. Mediation is a dispute resolution process in which the mediator, who is an impartial third party, facilitates negotiations among the parties to the dispute, to help them reach a mutually acceptable settlement.  The most significant difference between mediation and arbitration is that an arbitrator makes a decision about the outcome of the case.   In mediation, the parties with the assistance of their attorneys, work toward a solution with which they are comfortable.  In mediation the parties do not reach a resolution of the dispute unless all sides agree.
