We recently came across an article predicting 10 brands sold in America that will disappear before 2014. The criteria used to make the predictions are listed as:
- Declining sales and losses
- Disclosures by the parent of the brand that it might go out of business
- Rising costs that are unlikely to be recouped through higher prices
- Companies that are sold
- Companies that go into bankruptcy
- Companies that have lost the great majority of their customers
- Operations with withering market share
Each brand on the list suffers from one or more of the above problems. The article predicts that each of the 10 will be gone, based on the above criteria, within 18 months. The list of 10 brands predicted to disappear is:
- JC Penney
- Nook
- Martha Stewart Living magazine
- LivingSocial, a daily deals website
- Volvo
- Olympus digital camera business
- Women’s National Basketball Association
- Leap Wireless International Inc.
- Mitsubushi Motors
- Road & Track magazine
